Last month saw Thorrington Scout Camp stage the annual County Backpack event, with over 500 individuals attending. Thorrington was used as a base throughout the event with young people having to navigate the local area via map and compass and attend as many of the 24 manned bases as they could, whilst completing simple tasks to score points.
Teams of 4-6 scouts primarily entered into two categories; Experienced & Novice. There was also an Assisted section for teams that wished to compete but did not have the necessary experience and were therefore assisted by a leader.
44 different scout groups took part across the weekend, entering 79 different teams from all around the county. It was a great weekend had by all and showcased what young people can achieve. The winners for the Novice section saw Spitfire from Braintree & the Experience section saw 12th Clacton Adventures.
Next year the event returns to Thriftwood Scout Campsite 24th – 26th March 2023
